2024 Watershed Assessment
The watershed assessment completed by EverBlue was such an important activity for gaining a better understanding of the inputs potentially affecting the lakes, that it was summarized in a separate report shared below. EverBlue identified 7 locations within the three areas below that would benefit from watershed filtration improvements.
Big Twin Lake Main Inlet (Twin Lakes Creek)
Sagamore/Twin Lakes Park on Big Twin Lake
East and West of Brantwood Estates on Little Twin Lake
Big Twin Lake Inlet
By far the largest surface water input into the lakes is from Twin Lakes Creek which feeds Big Twin along the southwest shoreline. The Creek drains the watershed between Route 6 and Big Twin and flows through a 10-foot steel culvert under East Wood Drive. It was identified that filtration of Twin Lakes Creek in the area of the culvert would reduce the conveyance of sediment and nutrients into Big Lake. The culvert is under the maintenance of Twin Lake Woods community and they are in the process of rehabilitating the culvert later in 2025 to ensure that it maintains structural stability for the road. The project team from Twin Lake Woods has been in contact with TLWQC and the contractor will be obtaining all necessary permits and taking all precautions to protect the water quality during the execution of the work. Later in 2025, the TLWQC plans on working with EverBlue, Twin Lake Woods, and the contractor to determine if we can design filtration elements that could be installed associated with or after the culvert rehabilitation.

Sagamore Beach Area and Spring Pond
The EverBlue Report identified three potential areas of improvement by the Sagamore Beach and the Spring Pond. Although no longer represented in the TLWQC, it is our understanding that the community is working with the Stewards of Twin Lakes to assess and mitigate these areas.

The EverBlue Report identified that the Twin Lakes Park Basin had silted in and was no longer operating as efficiently as it could. This stormwater basin was actually created by the TWCWC team many years ago. The Twin Lakes Park community is working with the TLWQC and the Stewards of Twin Lakes to improve the operation of the basin as part of the other efforts being completed in the adjacent Sagamore area.

Preserve and Brandtwood Inlets
The EverBlue Report identified two drainage inlets flowing into Little Twin, located east and west of Brandtwood. These are relatively small inlets, where TLWQC will seek to reduce the velocity of the stormwater flow and install some filtration before the lake. This work is set to be accomplished later in 2025.
